W.If you want a lot of performance, you usually pay a lot: This is especially true for powerful gaming notebooks. It is not uncommon for extremely strong models to break the 3,000 euro mark. From February 25, 2021, Aldi Nord will have the Medion Erazer Defender P10 in the MD 63685 equipment variant – for a fraction of 3,000 euros. But does it also show current game crackers nicely? It offers enough storage space for a large collection of games. The practical test of the Erazer Defender P10 answers these and other questions.
The best gaming laptops
Medion Erazer Defender P10: 17.3 incher
The Erazer Defender is a full-blown gaming notebook – just the way gamers like it. On its large 17.3-inch display (almost 44 centimeters screen diagonal) it shows the latest games in Full HD with 1920×1080 pixels. As is usual with many notebooks in this price range, the Defender P10 screen is a display with IPS technology. This means: When viewed from the side, the image content does not pale as much as with standard displays.Intel Core i7-10750H: Comet Lake CPU
The main drive is Intel’s Comet Lake CPU Core i7-10750H – a top-of-the-range model with six cores with clock frequencies between 2.6 and 5.0 gigahertz, depending on the application. The processor is allowed to outsource the calculated data to a working memory with a size of 16 gigabytes – the exchange takes place at a maximum rate of 2,933 megahertz. According to the manufacturer, the RAM used should even work at 3,200 megahertz, but Comet Lake H processors limit the speed at 2,933 megahertz.

Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060
The image rendering is not calculated by the unit housed in the processor, but by an extra graphics processor – Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 2060 from the “Turing” range with 6 gigabytes of GDDR6 graphics memory. Separate monitors can dock on the Defender P10 either via HDMI, USB-C (with Displayport adapter) or via Mini-Displayport.
Work pace high, game pace too
The technology used spoils the user with a high work pace: Simple internet and office tasks? A no brainer! Elaborate photo and video editing? No problem either! And also current games like “Battlefield V “should run smoothly thanks to the comparatively strong RTX 2060 graphics chip – the RTX 2060 is not powerful enough just for gaming in 4K with 3840×2160 pixels on a separate 4K monitor.
Large M.2 SSD
Good for it: The Defender has an M.2 SSD with a fast PCI Express 3.0 connection and an effective 954 gigabyte memory for games, programs and data. If that’s not enough: A second M.2 SSD can be retrofitted inside (1 terabyte models are available from 85 euros). The Defender P10 goes online either via network connection or wirelessly via fast WLAN-ax (also called Wifi 6).
