Medion E10440 Kids Tablet: 10 Zller
The Aldi tablet Medion 10440 is a 10-inch tablet that shows games, films and websites with 1280×800 pixels, the otherwise usual Full HD playback with 1920×1080 pixels is not supported by the kids tablet. With the dimensions of 259×156 mm it is nice and compact, the supplied thick protective cover, also called “bumper”, allows the size to swell to 282x176mm. With the bumper, the Medion should also survive falls from the table without major wounds.Quad-core CPU from MediaTek
The Aldi tablet is powered by an inexpensive system-on-a-chip (SoC) from MediaTek: the MT8167, which manufacturers often use for inexpensive tablets. It has four ARM Cortex-A35 cores that work with a maximum of 1.3 gigayhertz when required. The graphics chip PowerVR GE8300, which is also implanted on the SoC, takes care of the image reproduction. The MT8167 can temporarily store calculated data in a 3 gigabyte working memory. Customers shouldn’t expect any speed records from this SoC.32 gigabytes of memory
The Aldi tablet has 32 gigabytes of memory for the operating system, apps and games. That’s not a lot. At least the memory can be expanded using a microSD card. The Medion goes into the network via WLAN-ac for synchronization Bluetooth is available for smartwatches or for connecting wireless boxes. The Medion has a 2-megapixel camera on the front and back. Customers shouldn’t expect miracles from these lenses, but they should be enough for snapshots and video calls. The battery is comparatively large with 6,000 mAh. If the manufacturer Medion ensures a good interaction between hardware and software, the energy storage should ensure a decent battery life.
Google Kids Space
Also good: The Medion does not work with the cutting-edge Android 11, but at least with Android 10. Medion also has Google’s Kids Space with a child-friendly interface. According to Google, children only have access to apps and games that educators have selected in this easy-to-use interface. In addition, children are only allowed to use YouTube videos Watch YouTube Kids. But parents should be able to choose content such as apps, games and books from the Play Store for their children. With the parental control settings in the Family Link app, parents can also manage content for their children or limit the duration of use of the device from their own smartphones or tablets, among other things.
Medion E10440 Kids Tablet: Assessment
Aldi estimates 179 euros for the Medion E10440 Kids Tablet. For comparison: The Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Edition costs around 200 euros, but has a full HD display. However, the Fire does not offer the full selection of apps and games from the Google Play Store, as it works with Amazon’s own Fire OS operating system. The equipment of the Medion is not outstanding, but is okay for a children’s tablet that costs 179 euros.
