D.he coronavirus also hits the trade fairs hard: This year, significantly fewer manufacturers are represented at the International Consumer Electronics Fair (IFA, September 3 to 5, 2020 in Berlin) than usual. This can be observed across all product categories, including with WLAN hardware . FritzBox manufacturers AVM and Netgear have already canceled their participation in the IFA in advance. The Chinese company TP-Link, on the other hand, seizes the opportunity and presents a colorful potpourri of WLAN and smart home devices, some with future-oriented technology.

The best WiFi repeaters
Deco X80 5G and X73-DSL: The latest standards
The router / repeater mixes from TP-Link’s Deco series are growing: There are three new devices, all of which have mesh functions. This means that devices are always optimally connected via WLAN at every point in the house. The TP-Link Deco X80 5G masters the eponymous cellular technology and can download up to 5 gigabits per second. It also transmits with the new standard via WLAN Wi-Fi 6 (WLAN-ax) and reaches up to 4,804 megabits per second (Mbps) in the 5-gigahertz frequency band and up to 1,148 Mbps at the 2.4-gigahertz frequency. It has a LAN port with 2.5 gigabit speeds and a telephone connection for voice-over-LTE telephony. In the Deco X73-DSL, however, there is a DSL modem that is suitable for supervectoring connections. It also uses Wi-Fi 6, but the 2.4 gigahertz frequency is slower than the Deco X80 5G (up to 574 Mbps). The Deco X73-DSL has a USB 3.0 port and four LAN connections, connects DECT telephones and supports Voice-over-IP telephony.
Deco X96: 6 gigahertz via WLAN
With the Deco X96, TP-Link has something very special in its luggage: It is one of the first devices to use the Wi-Fi 6E standard and therefore transmits in the 6 gigahertz frequency band. The frequency is less congested and offers much more space than 2.4 and 5 gigahertz, but private use is not yet legally regulated and permitted in Germany. Theoretically, the Deco X96 achieves up to 2,402 Mbps at 6 gigahertz, 4,804 Mbps at 5 gigahertz and 574 Mbps at 2.4 gigahertz. As TP-Link also announced at the IFA, the company will henceforth be working with Avira to comprehensively protect home networks with integrated security solutions.
