In terms of suction power, Dyson knows how to impress with its top device: no other cordless canister vacuum cleaner in the COMPUTER BILD test plowed deep carpets, smooth surfaces and upholstered furniture so confidently. A replaceable battery and smart technology that adjusts the performance depending on the flooring ensure more endurance. For the generous price, there is at least a long-lasting device with a lot of accessories. This includes a free-standing charging and storage station and a smaller one for wall mounting, many attachments, brushes and two batteries.

Dyson V11 Absolute Extra Pro: battery replaceable
The Dyson vacuum cleaner comes with exchangeable batteries – two of which are included. Thanks to the click-in technology, they can be easily exchanged for one another and, taken together, should provide two hours of suction fun – enough stamina to plow the entire house and the car in peace. We even managed a few more minutes in the test, but only in the economical “Eco” mode. When vacuuming carpets in the powerful “Boost” mode, the V11 lasts just under 11 minutes per battery. The battery level of the seven high-performance cells that work inside can be read at any time via the LC display in the handpiece of the vacuum cleaner. The displayed remaining running time takes into account the set suction mode: In addition to “Eco” and “Boost”, there is the “Med” or “Auto” mode, which offers a good compromise between endurance and suction power. The display also reminds you when the built-in filter is due to be cleaned. Especially good for allergy sufferers: The filter is HEPA-compatible, is supposed to suck in pollen, bacteria, dust mites & Co. from the air and thus ensure a better room climate. The vacuum cleaner is parked in one of the brackets provided for charging. Two power cables are also included in the scope of delivery. In this way, both batteries can be charged at the same time.

Dyson V11: Difficult to hold, easy to clean
The Dyson teat is mainly made of plastic, but looks high-quality and robust. The dust container is located in the handle below the filter and motor. With a volume of 0.76 liters, it offers plenty of space for accumulating dirt and is then quickly emptied: Simply pull the red lever, the flap opens and the plastic box pushes the contents into the garbage can. All of this has its weight: the handpiece and battery weigh more than 2 kilograms, with a bar and brush another 1 kilogram is added. Pushing this over a heavy carpet, for example, can put a lot of strain on the arm. In front of the arm, however, the testers got tired of the fingers, which had to press the suction button continuously during cleaning. There is no locking function with Dyson. You shouldn’t expect your neighbors to vacuum with the V11 late at night: if he combs the carpet with full force, he drones with up to 100 decibels, about as loud as a car horn or the New York subway. In the quiet eco mode, the volume is significantly reduced, for example to the noise level of a lively conversation (almost 70 dB).
A year of sucking: the Dyson V11 is so durable
Anyone who spends a lot of money on a vacuum cleaner wants something from it for a long time. We used the V11 Extra Pro almost every day for a year – and we are impressed: Although both batteries no longer have the full power of the early days, they each last a good 50 minutes – in the economical eco mode, mind you. But even in the powerful boost mode, there are still nine to ten minutes left from the initial eleven minutes. Not bad! The automatic suction power boost has proven to be particularly practical, as it gives a lot of gas on carpets and sofa upholstery. Instead of constant switching, vacuuming in auto mode is the order of the day – and yet the right amount of power is always at hand. Not so good: the suction button, which has to be pressed constantly. Even after a year, this still seemed tiring on the fingers of the testers.
