PS5 scam: This Amazon listing is a fake

At Amazon, fake offers are currently luring PS5 customers into the trap.

E.t’s to despair: Even four months after the official launch date, the PlayStation 5 is only available in stores with a lot of luck and perfect timing. So it’s no wonder that gamers reach for every straw to finally get hold of a copy of the Sony console. However, gamers run the risk of being fooled by unscrupulous fraudsters. They shamelessly take advantage of the demand and the scarce supply of the PS5 to cheat players with fake PS5 offers. Such fake offers usually circulate mainly on open sales platforms such as Ebay. However, anyone who thinks they are safe from fraud with reputable online retailers like Amazon will be taught better these days.

PS5 scam on Amazon

A marketplace seller called Amentics temporarily offered the PlayStation 5 there. Already the price called made suspicious: While price drivers are currently selling the PS5 at horrendous sums, the Amazon retailer lured them with a special offer. The PS5 with a physical drive, which is actually 500 euros, should cost 400 euros. A look into the Customer reviews of the provider confirmed the suspicion that this was a fraud. 37 ratings are available for Amentics (as of March 17, 2021). Of these, 38 percent are negative. The few positive feedbacks also give the impression that they are fake because they were almost all written on the same day. The negative reviews, on the other hand, speak for themselves.

Dubious business practices

Several Amazon customers report that they never received any goods after ordering from the retailer. While some have never heard from the seller again, others report that Amentics contacted them via WhatsApp and identified the order as incorrect. Affected buyers should then provide their e-mail address in order to re-initiate the order and process it outside of Amazon’s system. Whatever scam is behind this procedure, the behavior of the seller is highly dubious in any case. You should therefore always keep your eyes open when buying a PS5 via Amazon’s marketplace and avoid suspiciously cheap offers. The supposed deal from Amentics has now disappeared, but it should not remain the only fake of its kind.
