Phone sex may be out, but fraud with counterfeit bills is not.
GCommercial phone sex seems a bit outdated in the age of the Internet, but it still exists. A fact that fraudsters take advantage of once again to pull the money out of their pockets with dubious methods. Like the European Consumer Center (EVZ) Germany reports, dispatch criminals hoisted at present Fake bills of a supposed Czech phone sex provider to citizens who have never used such a service. In it they ask for a payment of 90 euros. The addressees should either send them by SEPA transfer or by registered mail to a Czech post office box. If the recipient of the invoice refuses to pay, the first reminder letters will soon follow and finally the well-known “last reminder”, in which the fraudsters threatened with serious consequences.
Fraudsters threaten with consequences
This scam is at least as old as the invention of phone sex itself. With the last letter in particular, the fraudsters are building up pressure and raising fears of debt collection companies and legal consequences. As usual in such cases, there is nothing but hot air behind these threats. The criminals randomly send these bills to victims whose phone numbers and addresses they have stolen beforehand using tricks such as phone calls. The names of the alleged phone sex companies are constantly changing. According to consumer protection, such as Telestar, Telesmart, Arvex, Mexcom, Kawora, Werso, Comera, Innova Inkasso, Telpay or Madaco are known. What they all have in common is that they do not exist. But what is the best way to behave when you are a victim of the nasty rip-off attempt?Keep calm and don’t pay!
First of all, you should keep calm. No matter how much pressure the scammers put, if you haven’t used a phone sex service, you won’t have to pay anything. Even if you accidentally dial such a number, you will not have to pay more than the regular telephone charges. A provider may only charge special fees after concluding a contract with previously fixed prices. Here, the operator of the service is obliged to provide evidence, so in this case they cannot harm you. According to consumer protection, you should contact the police after receiving such a fake invoice and also complain in writing to the sender of the invoice. Ask him to drop the demands made. If the process overwhelms you, you can do it EVZ Germany with advice and action free of charge.
