Schools Closed till December? Amid no clarity around reopening of schools, rumours and speculative media reports have kept students and parents on their toes with fake-news being circulated freely. One such rumour suggested that the Government has decided to keep schools across the country closed until December 2020. Following the rumours, several media organizations have also carried the same story without any backing from any of the governmental agencies including MHRD or Ministry of Health. After several students and parents reached out to HRD Ministry for clarification, the Central Government has issued a clarification in this regards, in the form of a myth-buster from PIB Fact Check Team. Check out the response issued by the Govt through PIB Fact Check Team Below:
No Decision on Reopening of Schools Yet
As per the clarification provided by the PIB Fact Check team, the news which claims that Schools across the country have been ordered to remain closed until December 2020 is fake. The fact-check team of Press Information Bureau also said that the “Central Government has not made any such decision” yet. Following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown thereafter, schools and higher educational institutions across the country have been closed on orders of the Central Govt. Recently, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ in a media interaction said that any decision regarding reopening of schools in the country would be taken after a thorough discussion with all stakeholders including Ministry of Health and Ministry of Home affairs, once the situation around the Coronavirus pandemic becomes conducive.
Schools Need to Adapt to the New Normal
Earlier, Union Education Minister had also said that as and when the decision to reopen schools will be taken, schools i.e. students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff, will have to adapt to the new normal. Whenever the decision to reope schools is taken by the government, detailed guidelines and precautionary protocols will be issued by the Health Ministry and HRD ministry to ensure complete safety of students and staff members. This would include compulsory use of Masks and Hand Sanitizers as well as modified seating arrangements, scattered classes, change in timings and others.
