Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation for the seventh consecutive time on the occasion of Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Saturday. His address will be amidst the Corona virus epidemic, the ongoing deadlock along the border with China and the many steps taken by the government under self-sufficient India.

All eyes will be on what the Prime Minister will say in the address because on 15 August he has been making big announcements, counting the achievements of his government and bringing major challenges to the attention of the country.

In the Independence Day speech after the overwhelming majority last year, he had prominently talked about bringing laws against triple talaq and abolishing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He also stressed the need to control the population and achieve the goal of a five thousand billion dollar economy.

When Modi addresses the country on the 74th Independence Day, he can refer to the government’s efforts in dealing with Kovid-19. This is the second year of the second term of the Modi government and the government has initiated a comprehensive reform initiative in the economy, while it has been badly affected by the Kovid-19.

This will be his address after Modi’s ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ of Ram temple in Ayodhya on August 5. His address will be amidst the ongoing standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh. Both countries are holding diplomatic and military talks to withdraw troops from conflict points.

He can also announce further reform measures in many areas while the government has taken several initiatives in various fields including agriculture and defense to achieve the goal of self-reliant India. More than four thousand people have been invited for the Independence Day celebrations to be held at the Red Fort, including officials, diplomats and media personnel. Earlier, Modi has made several big announcements on Independence Day – like the government’s ambitious Jan Dhan Yojana, Start Up India etc.
