Neco Williams has hailed Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold for inspiring him and his fellow academy youngsters.
Alexander-Arnold came through the same youth system, having broke into Liverpool’s starting XI shortly after Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at the club, and going on to become a bona fide star and one of the top defenders in world football.
The England international has enjoyed a remarkable upward trajectory, and that has only stoked the fires of Liverpool’s next crop of talent eager to follow in his footsteps.
Williams told the Mail : “It’s just kind of an eye-opener to prove to people that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.
“Trent was at the academy from a young age and he’s gone up through the ranks. Now he’s obviously one of the best right-backs in the world and he’s playing unbelievably.”
Welsh full-back Williams has impressed on his own handful of performances in the Reds first-team this season.
The 18-year-old has made five appearances in the cup competitions, and was one of the only academy prospects to keep his place for the FA Cup defeat at Chelsea.
Williams could now be in line for a call-up to the senior Wales squad, after he caught the attention of international boss Ryan Giggs.
