Is PUBG MOBILE a Chinese Application?

PUBG MOBILE is one of the most played mobile games ever, with more than 50 Million active players daily. Although it is two years old now, still, PUBG MOBILE has no decline in its popularity. Anyhow, there seems to be a spell of dark clouds on the game, as #UninstallChineseApps trends on Twitter and other social sites. So the question arises, is PUBG MOBILE a Chinese game? Read here to know everything – the controversy and more.

TikTok vs. YouTube is the starting step for the Uninstall Chinese Apps movement. It started in a rather fun way to establish YouTube as a single dominant application. This also resulted in reducing TikTok’s ratings on the Google Play Store. It was then only that Indians came to know that China makes Billions of dollars from the people by just using their applications and games. So, a movement that started in a fun to degrade TikTok became a revolution, and #UninstallTikTok gradually turned to #BoycottChineseProducts. Although TikTok is a small step in this massive revolution.

Some apps let you know if you are using any Chinese application. Such apps were also removed from Google Play Store, which made the people infuriated. Also, due to the clash of the Indian and Chinese armies on the border, these hashtags are trending, higher than ever. Now, if you want to be a part of it, and delete all of your Chinese apps, you might want to know whether PUBG Mobile is Chinese or not. Some masses claim that it is Korean, while others say it is Chinese. It is rather complicated.

PUBG franchise is owned by Bluehole corporation. It is a South Korean based game developing firm, best known for making TERA and PUBG games. This makes PUBG (for PC and consoles) a South Korean game. But, it is not similar with PUBG MOBILE. Although Bluehole owns PUBG MOBILE, it is published by Tencent Games. Now, Tencent grabs a significant share of all the income from the game and is also responsible for all the updates and management of PUBG MOBILE. The thing is, Tencent Games is based in Shenzhen, China. This makes things a bit complicated. But don’t worry, read further to understand everything.

In this case, consider Bluehole as a founder. They have created a game called PUBG, which is a worldwide success. But, it is not available on mobile. So, Tencent Games, a distributor, in this case, approaches Bluehole. They both settle on a deal, with which Tencent buys 10% of shares in Bluehole, and acquires PUBG and trademarks of the same, and launches a mobile version of PUBG. This makes Tencent Games the principal owner of PUBG MOBILE, and Bluehole also gets a fortune of money.

This explanation is for reference only, and the real deal might be quite complicated. Now, PUBG MOBILE made more than 200 million dollars in 2019. Every day in May, PUBG MOBILE and PUBG MOBILE LITE grossed around $43,21,663 together. So, the money earned is high. And yes, the majority of it goes to China. So, if you want to eradicate Chinese income from your side, and want to make #UninstallChineseApps and #BoycottChineseProducts a success, then, PUBG MOBILE and PUBG MOBILE LITE are the ones you need to consider to delete.

Further, if you think that by not buying Royale Pass, you will not contribute any money, then you are wrong. Only a fraction of people spend real-life money for in-app purchases, and still, the company makes a lot of money. The primary source of this income is through hidden advertisements and such. So, deleting it is the only way to support the movement.
