Hotstar-JioTV Deal For IPL 2020 Live Streaming Called Off

Millions of cricket fans won’t be able to enjoy the free live streaming of the most awaited tournament of the year, IPL 2020. The deal between JioTV and Hotstar cannot be renewed due to which free live streaming has been called off. Jio SIM subscribers will not be able to watch IPL 2020 with the JioTV app.

JioTV is an application that lets you live stream news, sports, and more. Made by the Reliance group, this is a free service for all Jio SIM users. You need to put in your Jio phone number and fill in the OTP. With that, you can watch plenty of content online. But now, IPL is not on this list anymore.

Why JioTV Won’t LiveStream the IPL 2020?

Hotstar has been the hub of IPL streaming for the past few years. The only drawback is that it doesn’t offer free watch hours. It is programmed to pop up a message to subscribe after every 5 minutes of run asking users to subscribe. On the other hand, JioTV is a free subscription to anyone, given that you own a Jio SIM.

Both parties were in discussion to provide live IPL content on both the platforms. However, according to a report of e4M, both Hotstar and JioTV couldn’t reach an agreement for the rights of the IPL so JioTV deal for IPL 2020 live streaming. Now, it is being reported that JioTV has stepped off from the debate, which makes Hotstar the sole owner for 2020’s IPL Season 13.

Will IPL 2020 will be on Hotstar only?

IPL is scheduled to begin on September 19th and will be played in UAE. After the Disney+ and Hotstar deal, the latter is looking for acquiring a larger user base in India than its previous record. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the use of the service is expected to rise, which means more views. Hotstar gained about 300 million viewers last year and expects to break records this time.

Will JioTV Return with IPL Season 13?

Many sources claim that even though the deal is off between JioTV and Hotstar, still, we should wait for the magic to happen. Last-minute changes can also take place, which will make it less predictable. As Hotstar wants to get more subscribers (pay to view), JioTV can still come to rescue for those who want to watch IPL for free. Thus, time will tell whether they succeed or not.

Till some agreement is reached, millions of Jio viewers will have to subscribe to Hotstar to enjoy unlimited action on the field.

Recently Reliance Jio had entered into a collaboration with Disney+ Hotstar by offering a one-year subscription on some plans for free. IPL fans with Jio SIM can also opt for it.
