Himachal Pradesh High Court has ordered a stay on the order on the UGC examinations until the order of the Supreme Court has been announced on the matter. According to reports, the next hearing on the examinations will be conducted tomorrow, August 18, 2020.
The hearing at the Supreme Court is being conducted based on the petition filed by parents and students against conducting the final year exams by the University Grants Commission across the country. As per the UGC guidelines released, the final year exams are to be conducted across the universities by September 30, 2020.
The last hearing on this matter was conducted on August 14, 2020. The counsel appearing at the court had earlier stated that the decision of the UGC to conduct the exams by September 30, 2020, is unusual given that there is no mention of health concerns or an improvement in the situation. The counsel further added that the UGC providing the dates under normal circumstances is usual but not during a pandemic.
The Delhi High Court on the other hand has directed the UGC to issue an advisory to all the universities regarding changes for the demand of submitting provisional certificates for securing admissions for the Postgraduate courses given the delay in conducting the exams and declaring the results.
The UGC had earlier on ordered for the universities and colleges in the country to conduct the final semester examinations for the students. The UGC released guidelines for colleges and universities to conduct the final semester exams in the online, offline, or both the modes.
